This Past Year

With this school year coming to an end, I’d like to reminisce on what I’ve accomplished.

Illuminating Moments

My first project right before starting this school year was to the Blithe Field song, “Illuminating Moments.” I didn’t really have a specific direction in mind. I knew that I wanted to composite everything by duplicating it and flipping it 180 degrees, but I didn’t know exactly what to film.  I started out by filming unique arrangements of light and just went from there.  The cat element came when I needed something to represent the repeating organic-sounding noise throughout the song.  Speaking of cats, the black and white one in the video, Tigger, passed away this January, so RIP buddy.

Formally Phrased, withe the exception of a few

Whenever I work with Megan Nicklos, I know it’s going to be interesting.  The second I saw her piece, I knew I had to film it in split screen with duel perspectives.  I don’t think I’ve ever edited something so tedious before I went to work on this piece.  It took days and days of moving tracks around just to try and get timing right.  Once I found the rhythm to go in, I was really happy with the final project.

In the Moonlight

I was asked to make a video to Blithe Field’s first single off his newest album, Warm Blood, (which recently came out).  Spencer and I agreed upon the idea of having a mellow clown exploring the desolate city streets at night.  Will was the perfect choice to be that clown, (Fancy the Clown, to be specific).  The song is tranquil and nostalgic.  Aside from the video launching with great success across the world, it was one of my favorite projects to work on during filming and editing.

kənˈglämərit

This was a project that manifested itself as it was being made.  I knew what song I wanted to use, and who I wanted to be in it, but what they wanted to do, was their choice.  I just wanted it to be fun, psychotic, and robust.  Editing was a pain because I had so many options to work with, but in the end, it all fit the way it was meant to.  It was a conglomerate of all sorts of things, which led it to have the name that it has.

Mom Likes the 80′s

A simple and effective video.  We threw a party and filmed a video.  It features a load of Athens locals who make their cameo throughout the video.  Almost all of it was improvised, but it works, and it fit the song really well.

Crave_U

By far the project I’m most proud of this year.  I’ve been so anxious to get into the studio and pump out a fashion film, and this past quarter was when I was finally able to.  My crew of stylists and lighting technician were the best I could ever ask for.  Audrey, my model, was nervous to be filmed, but I honestly couldn’t have gotten someone better for the part.  The concept of this piece was to show polar opposites; innocence and recklessness.  I really wanted the idea of shattering the innocent youth to be transcended throughout the piece.

She’s Not Much to Look at

Again, working with Megan is always a treat.  Her most recent piece is really interesting, as she’s covered in silver paint wearing a gold skirt.  When she explained the concept of the dance to me, I knew we had to film it somewhere industrial.  Luckily for us, I knew of a strange factory-like location not too far that ended up being the place we filmed at.
